Hermeticism, also called Hermetism, is a philosophical and esoteric tradition based primarily upon the writings attributed to Hermes Trismegistus. The name Hermes Trismegistus in Ancient Greek means ‘thrice-greatest Hermes’ and was translated into Latin as “Mercurius ter Maximus”.
Hermes Trismegistus may be associated with the Greek god Hermes and the Egyptian god Thoth.

Hermes was the emissary and messenger of the gods. Hermes was also “the divine trickster” and “the god of boundaries and the transgression of boundaries, … the patron of herdsmen, thieves, graves, and heralds.” He is described as moving freely between the worlds of the mortal and divine and was the conductor of souls into the afterlife. He was also considered the protector and patron of roads and travellers.
Thoth’s roles in Egyptian mythology were many. He served as scribe of the gods, credited with the invention of writing and Egyptian hieroglyphs. In the underworld appeared as an ape, Aani, the god of equilibrium, who reported when the scales are weighing the deceased’s heart against the feather.
The Hermetic writings have greatly influenced the Western esoteric tradition and were considered to be of great importance during both the Renaissance and the Reformation.
In Late Antiquity, Hermeticism was characterised by a resistance to the dominance of either pure rationality or doctrinal faith. After centuries of falling out of favour, Hermeticism was reintroduced to the West when, in 1460, a man named Leonardo de Candia Pistoia brought the Corpus Hermeticum to Pistoia. He was one of many agents sent out by Cosimo de’ Medici, to scour European monasteries for lost ancient writings.
However, the true doctrine of Hermeticism has been long lost, forgotten or misinterpreted. Hermeticism, by definition, represents unity by triplicity, and it is opposed to the Judeo-Christian dualistic model of religion, philosophy and science – the very foundation of the Western civilisation.

Sometimes tradition means to keep going in the wrong direction with our eyes closed. The Aquarian Hermetic Tarot is the deck of the New Aeon, the Age of Aquarius. It was created to reset the Tarot scene and the way we were taught and cultivated to look at the Tarot and think about it.
