Keeping a diary

MOOATIC Guide and Journal

Allegedly, American astronaut Neil Armstrong, stepping for the first time on the Moon on 20 July 1969, uttered, “that’s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Keeping a diary is a small step for mankind but one giant leap for you.
What are you going to write in your journal is entirely up to you.
You can write, you can draw, you can be explicit or vaguely abstract, you can be yourself. Moreover, you can be whoever you want to be. The Moon is the limit. It is a myth that we have fixed personalities. It is self-limiting, and it prevents us from making changes, denies us the possibility to evolve. It is in your power to rewrite your story, both on paper and in real life.
And don’t let your brain find excuses. Our brain can produce an infinite amount of “reasonable” justifications and alibies, “bulletproof” excuses not to do things. Our brain is a lazy animal and will do anything to maintain the status quo. Sometimes with the loving and sincere support of your friends and family, and all those people who “know exactly who you are”. Unwillingly, they deny you the chance of evolution, to be or become somebody else, at least a better version of yourself. These artificial conditionings are your enemy.
Self-discipline and commitment are crucial. Forget about anybody else; you are only in direct competition with yourself. You don’t have to prove anything to anybody but to yourself.
Take full responsibility for your life – your choices, your actions. Stop blaming the circumstances or other people for your “misfortune”. Fortune, in most cases, is self-made.
Keep tracking your goals and achievements. To be a step ahead, you need to know exactly where you are and where you have been one day before. The future results from our present deeds, just as today is made of our past deeds. Keeping the records of these things will help you understand the entire process. Some would call it the law of cause and effect.
Making plans is necessary, but making adjustments can be salvatory. Know what had results and understand what went wrong, respectively, why and where you failed to make the best decisions. Self-evaluation and the objective observation of current circumstances and opportunities will sustain any future progress.
Admiral William McRaven said, “if you wanna change the world, start off by making your bed. If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day”. Keeping a diary can be another task – perhaps at the end of the day. It may require discipline and structure. It will help you to see things, remember things, and learn something every day. Understand things and “know thyself”. Writing make it easy.

Make time every day, and write something. Then, read over your previous entries.
Keeping a journal is a ritual.
There is a significant difference between routine and ritual. One does routine automatically, unconsciously, such as washing our tooth, for instance, while a ritual requires awareness, physical, emotional and mental presence. Therefore, one of the greatest challenges is not to transform the ritual into a mechanical routine.

Write down anything you consider is pen worthy.
I just said pen?
Cryon, pen, whatever you like, but writing by hand is essential for your sanity, physical and psychical health.
Of course, in a world of zeros and ones, you could keep a digital diary, but it is not the same! It will never be the same.
Writing with your hand is a unique and unreplaceable spiritual experience. It is not only an exercise of dexterity but gymnastics for the mind. It is essential to keep our mind, body and soul in balance. Handwriting bonds the body, the soul and the mind together in union and harmony.
