Karpathy-Smith Tarot Hierophant

Karpathy-Smith Tarot Hierophant
It has been named Pope, High Priest or Hierophant, but more properly it should be called Demiurge. The word demiurge means ‘craftsman’ or ‘artisan’, but it has become synonymous with ‘creator’. In the Platonic and Neoplatonic schools of philosophy, the Demiurge is responsible for fashioning and maintaining the physical universe. Waite described The Hierophant as ‘the ruling power of the external religion’. It represents structure, government, or the so-called ‘outer Church’. Identified as the ‘Lesser Creator’, the Demiurge is a ‘false god’, respectively only the true God’s image – reflection – in the material world.
