Sleeping

As I said, currently, I am working on a book about dream interpretation and Cartomancy. Yesterday I finished a sub-chapter about the importance of sleep. I hope you will find it helpful!

Scientist and professor Matthew Walker stated that insufficient and troubled sleep are key lifestyle factors determining one’s health and well-being. Regularly sleeping less than six or seven hours a night demolishes our immune system and expose us to various health risks, including cancer. Short sleeping increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, stroke, and congestive heart failure and may cause developing Alzheimer’s disease. Sleep deficiency also leads to eating disorders. Inadequate sleep may disrupt blood sugar levels and create preconditions for diabetic disease. Sleep disruption further contributes to all major psychiatric conditions, including depression, anxiety, and suicidality. Unsurprisingly, the shorter your sleep, the shorter your life span. Thus, sleeping eight hours a day, every day, is not a recommendation but a requirement.
While sleeping, we stop perceiving the outside world, meaning we lose external awareness. Although we can still hear, see, smell, taste and feel, and all these signals are still flood into the centre of our brain, a small structure called the thalamus are blocking them. The thalamus decides
which sensory signals are allowed through its gate and which are not. Those who gain privileged passage are sent up to the cortex at the top of your brain, where they are consciously perceived. By locking the rest of the signals out, the thalamus secures healthy sleep.
