“You have no choice. You must leave your ego on the doorstep before you enter love.”
Kamand Kojouri

– What should you focus on today?
– Can your ego stand in the way of your happiness?

The reversed Sun, like all the cards, has multiple meanings and can be interpreted in various ways.
Generally speaking, it’s a card of surrender and self-pity. However, in the sub-sidereal is a refusal of genuine love. The Sun card, both upright and reversed, is a reminder of unconditional love. Yet, when reversed, brightness transforms into darkness, love turns into sadness, and an uplifting emotion becomes bitterness.
On a personal level, the reversed Sun expresses self-pity and a sense of emotional abandonment.
From a spiritual perspective, it represents the “Black Sun”.
The Black Sun is a symbol and esoteric motif with several overlapping meanings across occult, alchemical, mystical, and political contexts.
Some of the key concepts associated with the Black Sun are the shadowed solar principle, the alchemical stage known as Nigredo, the anti-cosmic force, and the Jungian concept of the Shadow.
The shadowed solar principle represents a hidden, inner sun, which is an invisible source of spiritual power or inner illumination that contrasts with the visible sun. It symbolises inner transformation, occult knowledge, and the soul’s dark, regenerative centre.
In traditional Alchemy, the Black Sun has been associated with Nigredo, meaning “blackening,” and is considered the first alchemical stage of dissolution and putrefaction that precedes purification and rebirth. Thus, the Black Sun marks the necessary descent into darkness to catalyse spiritual renewal.
Ancient astrologers considered the Sun both creative and destructive. The Black Sun has been an anti-cosmic or chthonic force, associated with secret wisdom, initiation, and the revelation of hidden realities beyond ordinary perception.
Carl Jung and later interpreters read the Black Sun as an archetype of the Shadow and psychic integration, representing the hidden, rejected aspects of the self whose confrontation enables individuation.
The Black Sun has been used by various occult orders and in modern magical practices as a sigil or focal image for rites that invoke inner transformation, shadow work, and access to subterranean metaphysical forces.
Called Sonnenrad, a stylised Sun wheel, was adopted and adapted by Nazi-era and neo-Nazi organisations to serve as their distinct symbol.
The symbol’s exact meaning depends on the traditional alchemical, pagan, mystical, Jungian, or politicised occult and ranges from a positive image of inner transformation to a darker emblem co-opted for extremist ideology.
The Black Sun embodies themes such as descent into darkness, confrontation with the Shadow, inner or occult illumination, and rebirth or renewal. It is worth reiterating that the interpretation of a symbol can lead to vastly divergent understandings among different people.
Just like the combination of three Tarot cards.
The Five of Swords, signifying innovation, is the cause of the reversed Sun.
Likewise, the reversed Sun is the cause of the Ten of Wands, signifying spontaneity.
As night follows day, and day follows night, the constant motion of the universe is a reminder that innovation and spontaneity are the salt and pepper of life.
The Five of Swords is about making the most of any situation, while the Ten of Wands is about adaptability.
And if the Sun is going down now, it will rise again tomorrow.
