“The way we experience the world around us is a direct reflection of the world within us.”
Gabrielle Bernstein
– What should you focus on today?
– What things you should focus on?
– What things should you reconsider?
Today, we have another interesting situation: two King cards, Water and Air, one reversed and the other upright.
Once again, the traditional conflict between feelings and thoughts. This time around, reason seems to be triumphing. However, the future looks a little bit uncertain.
The Kings are above the Court cards and at the same level as the planetary cards. The planets are the messengers of the gods, the zodiac signs, while the gods choose the Kings to mediate between the gods and humanity.
The King is the ruler of the Court. Placing the Kings at the same level as the Knights, Queens, and Pages is a well-grounded mistake.
The Kings represent the highest manifestation of the self and self-consciousness. Unreachably high. If Jesus ever incarnated as the New Testament suggest, the Kings represent that level of consciousness. Man number Seven, as Gurdjieff classified, is the fully developed, independent human being – god-like, or the original man, Adam Kadmon, the man before the fall.
While astrologically, the three Court cards represent opposition, the Kings represent peregrine, a position 150 degrees apart. It is an uncomfortable position. Peregrine evokes pilgrimage, and it is a challenging exploration of unknown territories both physically and psychologically. It requires going beyond and overcoming our limitations.
The King of Cups is the ruler of our hearts, while the King of Swords rules over our minds. One is the emotional, the other the rational centre.
According to today’s reading, the emotional centre is dysfunctional, and the reversed card indicates a disbalance. It has been generically labelled “misadventure,” but it can be anything from secret desires to infidelity.
Therefore, the mission of the King of Swords is to identify the issue and deal with the consequences.
The King of Swords brings the Moon to Aquarius. Although deeply emotional and sensitive, the Moon needs to deal with cold facts and rational matters. Moreover, Aquarius is also about pushing the limits, innovating and following the untravelled paths, making the whole experience more challenging and increasing the discomfort.
While the attributed keyword is “reflection,” the King of Swords is a card of action. Therefore, it requires a firm decision. In that matter, alchemically, the Kings represent the transmutation of the passive into active energy – the exact opposite of the process embedded in the Aces.
So, what has the King of Swords decided?
The reversed Page of Wands suggests a mind game similar to a chess match. The card being reversed may indicate that the odds are not on your side, but it ain’t over till it’s over.
