On the left, the Six of Wands, dubbed Lust, is the little sister of the Strength card and represents one-third of Leo.
On the right is the Emperor, representing Aries.
The combination of the cards allows me to talk about directions in the Tarot deck.
Aries is the first sign, astrologically and from a geocentric perspective. It marks the beginning of spring in the Northern hemisphere and the start of a new cosmic year.
It’s critical to understand that we are talking about the geocentric perspective, which involves the Numerals (known as pips) and the three Court cards: the Knights, Queens, and Pages.
The direction is counterclockwise, from left to right, from Aries to Pisces, respectively.
However, the heliocentric model is clockwise, from right to left, and from Leo to Virgo. Leo is the creative force, the “first spark,” while Virgo represents the materialisation of the entire alchemical process.
Thus, from a cosmic and alchemical perspective, it makes sense to begin in Leo and go to Aries, as the first gives the spark and the second backs it up with a hefty dose of enthusiasm.
In between, in the middle, is the Nine of Cups. That is a card of introspection, of digging deeper into our subconscious, and a subtle reminder of who we are and how we relate to the world and others.
