Today’s card presents an interesting astrological development. Neptune transits Cancer, then enters Scorpio, where it will collide with a retrograde Pluto.
The Two of Cups reveals your most intimate and sensitive aspects of your soul. It’s a card of profound and strong attachments – it’s where it can hurt you the most.
Moving to the Seven of Cups, we enter the area of sexuality and secrets. It is a card steeped in desires and mysteries worthy of exploration. While it relates to sexual awareness, sometimes it can have a religious component as well, depending on individual choices and external circumstances. Most intriguingly, these two apparently irreconcilable aspects may sometimes coexist and flourish together.
How is that possible?
We are in Scorpio, a sign associated with the card Little Death. The Seven of Cups is one-third of the Little Death card, representing its most intimate side.
Antonio Porchia said that “We become aware of the void as we fill it.” However, sometimes the void swallows us. Today, the name of that void is the reversed Little Death, which came crushing in like a burning comet. Thus, the combination of the Seven of Cups and the reversed Little Death further underlines the imminent threat of self-destruction.
The Little Death card represents an unequivocal departure from the traditional form and interpretation of the Death card. While the Death card most likely embodied the plague known as the Black Death, decimating about 50% of Europe’s fourteenth-century population, the Little Death card focuses on the concept of transformation. In the upright position, the card relates more to sex, and in the reversed position, it relates more to death and transition.
If destruction is foreseeable, it’s also implicitly avoidable.
Reversed Major Arcana cards can be switched back by working with the energies of their three low-level components. With Little Death, those cards are the Five, Six, and Seven of Cups. Each of these cards addresses a specific aspect of the Little Death and can help rebalance the disturbed energies. The art is to sense where the turbulences are and on which card to focus. Both the inner and outer universes are extremely sensitive spaces. Too much or too little pressure can further destabilise the energies. It requires the work of a genuine Magician.
What makes the current situation more demanding is that all three cards are Cups, which are all emotionally highly charged. The Two and Seven of Cups, channelling Neptune, make those two cards volatile and unpredictable.
With few exceptions, every challenge that arises in life inevitably has a corresponding resolution, and no predicament is insurmountable.
An alternative solution to preventing the reversed Little Death is to avoid getting there. Usually, a reversed Numeral (pipe) can be overturned by its opposite counterpart. Although the Seven of Cups is not reversed, an unorthodox possibility is to switch your focus instead to the Seven of Disks. Often, the pains of the soul can be cured by focusing on work. No better card for that than the Seven of Disks.
