According to Etteilla, the Nine of Wands signifies delays, distance, removal or suspension. Mathers saw the card as representing order, disciple, good arrangement and disposition. Waite considers it is ‘strength in opposition’, while Crowley building upon Waite’s interpretation said that strength lies in the ability to change perpetually.
The card’s design reflects Etteilla’s point of view. It is a static scene, and the displayed character seems contemplative.
In my opinion, it is a card of dynamic changes, taking advantage of opportunities and adapt to any given circumstances.
