In various cities and towns, parades take place during the Thanksgiving weekend. In most regions, these celebrations also signify the commencement of the Christmas shopping season.
Thanksgiving Day has been an annual holiday in the United States since 1863. However, not everyone views Thanksgiving Day as a cause for celebration. Some within the US Native American community believe that the mythology surrounding the holiday overlooks the destruction of indigenous cultures that ensued following European settlement.
The Day After Thanksgiving, also known as Black Friday, is a holiday in more than 20 states. It’s common to take trips and visit family and friends during the long weekend.
