Learning is not a matter of memorising data mechanically but understanding. We often memorise things without truly understanding them. We mistake knowledge for understanding. People with impressive knowledge may not understand the most basic concepts correctly. Not because they would not be capable of it but because they only accumulated information without processing it. Therefore, learning requires rational criticism and a permanent state of mental alertness.
