Inspired partly by the Endless Column, and partly by the subtle connection between the cards, the Hexa Tarot is an exclusive alchemical deck.
The Endless Column is made of 15 rhomboidal modules, with a half-unit at the top and bottom, making a total of 16 and accumulate a total height of 29.3 meters. It is part of the Sculptural Ensemble of Constantin Brâncuși at Târgu Jiu, and it was completed on 27 October 1938. The ensemble comprises three sculptures: The Table of Silence, The Gate of the Kiss and the Endless Column. The Endless Column symbolizes the concept of infinity. Brâncuși had experimented with the rhomboidal form as early as 1918, with an oak version now found in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York City.
The Endless Column appears on the cover of Moshe Idel’s book “Ascensions on High in Jewish Mysticism” (Central European University Press, 2005).
Several Tarot decks are dealing with or referring to Alchemy. The Hexa Tarot focuses on the physical and alchemical connections between cards. The physical connection is based on the astrological position of each card. Cards belonging to the same Zodiac sign or visiting those signs are connected; they create a family or cluster – just like atoms held together by chemical bonds creates molecules. Alchemy studies these subtle connections and intimate relationships. The alchemical attribution of the cards is based on Basil Valentine’s “Twelve Keys”.
The Hexa Tarot is built as a map of these connections. For instance, Two of Wands, Three of Wands, Four of wands, The Knight of Wands, The Devil and The Emperor form a cluster. The Hexa Tarot is designed to discover and explore these connections.
Within the cards of the Tarot deck, respectively, the groups of cards, there are several types of connections and relationships.
The most commonly known are the affinities and oppositions.
Generally, affinities are among the cards belonging to the same Element. Therefore, Aries, Leo and Sagittarius are all Fire cards, and they are compatible with each other. However, the Fire cards are in opposition to the Air cards, and the Water cards with the Earth cards.
Triplicities of affinities:
Aries – Leo – Sagittarius
Cancer – Scorpio – Pisces
Libra – Aquarius – Gemini
Capricorn – Taurus – Virgo
Pairs of opposition:
Aries – Libra
Taurus – Scorpio
Gemini – Sagittarius
Cancer – Capricorn
Leo – Aquarius
Virgo – Pisces
