Any relationship is based on respect. Someone’s relationship with the deck of Tarot cards is no different. You don’t have to consider your cards living beings to owe them respect and handle them properly. At least you should have the courtesy to take care of something in that you have invested at least money, if not also time and effort.

There are many myths and customs surrounding the way of cleansing, handling and preserving the Tarot decks.

I prefer to keep my decks in various wood or paper boxes. They also can be wrapped in silk before being placed in those boxes. Having them in boxes prevents the deck from being exposed to excessive sunlight, dust, smoke, and other possible harms, including negative energies.

The Tarot cards are personal, intimate things like underwear. Protecting them is protecting ourselves. Keeping the decks in boxes also prevents the cards from being touched and handled, misused by other people.
