I have often heard people saying about one or another Tarot deck, “oh, that’s so beautiful, I need to have it!”
Although aesthetics are an important component of any product, when it comes to Tarot, it’s not how beautiful it is but how effective it is that really matters.
The Tarot deck is like a computer – it is hardware. And similarly, like a computer, it requires an operating system and an operator.
The operating system requires an educated, skilful programming engineer, and the operator has to be adequately qualified to operate the machinery and to read and translate the messages. These are all quite sensitive matters that can influence the result in one direction or another.

Every Tarot deck has its own body, soul, structure and spirit. In some sense, it is a living entity with its own existence. Thus, it requires attention, dedication, study, work and effort to bear fruit finally. And the fruits, in the case of the Tarot, are the keys that open the way to exploring the self and the possibilities to make the right choices and follow our path through life.
We live in times where the creation and marketing of Tarot and Oracle decks have become a multi-million-dollar business annually. Anyone interested will tell you that anyone can read the cards, that it’s easy, even entertaining.
