Waiting on the Bench, Chapter Eight

“Waiting on the Bench” is an innovative, esoteric novel.
It combines two separate yet correlated works.
On the one hand, the novel consists of 22 chapters and presents the death and afterlife trials and tribulations of a man during 40 days, according to the Orthodox canons.
On the other hand, for each chapter, there is a corresponding so-called counter-chapter dealing with one of the twenty-two cards of the Major Arcana of the Tarot deck.
“Waiting on the Bench” was inspired by my own near-death experience resulting from my encounter with the covid infection in October 2021.
Five years later, I almost finished the book—five years of my own trials and tribulations.
Today I offer you one full chapter.
Enjoy!

Chapter Eight

The dead of a party. Discovering the bench. A portal to the other side. A similar world but still different. Getting through the twenty customs.

The burial afterparty had ended. The last handful of mourners drifted away as the sun slipped behind the hills and the afternoon bled into evening. I felt hollowed out and frightened, though I couldn’t have said exactly what. Of whatever came next, I suppose. That’s the trouble with the end: it never turns out to be the end.
My legs shook. I sank onto a bench.
The bench held a peculiar place in the cemetery. Most visitors hurried past without a glance. Only now and then did I see an elderly widower settle there to mourn the one he had lost.
The cemetery sprawled across the hillside beneath a canopy of trees. Beyond the rusty Read more Waiting on the Bench, Chapter Eight ›

Speaking about the Devil…

The Dark Age

A follow-up to the morning three-card reading. A small excerpt from my upcoming book, “Waiting on the Bench.” Enjoy!

“The dream, albeit more of a nightmare, had come to a natural end. With its gentle touch, the sun brightened the colours, making the cemetery, though not the most cheerful place, appear in a more friendly light. Once again, the little things and the small details made the unbearable endurable. At the moment, the name of the devil hidden in the details was hope. And if the Devil’s greatest trick was making people believe he didn’t exist, then there was no hope either. Yet, I had met the Devil in flesh and blood, so I thought hope could be real as well.”

Creationism vs. Evolution theory

creationism vs. evolution theory

The overwhelming majority of scientists have concluded that G_d does not exist and have convinced the rest of the world without providing conclusive evidence that one theory is better than the other. While, in the historical context, I understand that it was time to end the Church’s monopoly over truth and the way we perceive the world and creation, we only managed to Read more Creationism vs. Evolution theory ›

Strength

Strength-UET

Called the Force in the early Italian decks, Strength depicts the struggle between virtues and vices.
The human condition involves a perpetual struggle between virtue and vice, a moral battleground that has shaped individuals, societies, and spiritual traditions for centuries. In Christian moral theology, this conflict is Read more Strength ›

Emperor

The Emperor-UET

(Excerpt from the book, Waiting on the Bench)

I’ve been working very hard to finish my esoteric pseudo-novel. Here is another fragment I completed. I hope you will enjoy reading.

Throughout history, the line between the Emperor and the Pope has often been blurred.
From the ancient Mesopotamian kings to the Roman Emperors, rulers sought to consolidate all power in their own hands.

About G_d

About G_d

“G_d and I had a fair and cordial relationship. I never asked for anything, and G_d never gave me something. I didn’t bother G_d, and most likely, G_d was unaware of my existence. In that matter, I believe I was G_d’s favourite creature. It was almost like a good neighbour relationship in which we smiled and said hello whenever we met, but we never knew each other’s names.
G_d was everywhere and nowhere. The mathematical difference between everything and nothing is zero.”
