The Papus Tarot deck

Papus Tarot deck

Gérard Anaclet Vincent Encausse (July 13, 1865 – 25 October 1916), whose esoteric pseudonym was Papus, was the Spanish-born French physician, hypnotist, and popularizer of occultism, who founded the modern Martinist Order.
As a young man, Encausse spent a great deal of time at the Bibliothèque Nationale studying the Kabbalah, occult tarot, magic and alchemy, and the writings of Eliphas Lévi. He joined the French Theosophical Society shortly after it was founded by Madame Blavatsky in 1884 – 1885, but he resigned soon after joining because he disliked the Society’s emphasis on Eastern occultism. Temple of Secrets – The Reinhard Schmid Tarot deck

Temple of Secrets

Since 1994 Reinhard Schmid has been working on a big piece (15 by 45 feet) about TAROT cards in the former chapel of the Buergerspital (old hospital) inside the chapel.
In the late 18th century Court de Gébelin invented a wonderful story about the 22 major Arcana (cards with mysterious images), claiming that they were actually created by an ancient Egyptian god. According to that story the priests and wise men and women had accumulated enormous knowledge. They were really concerned, this knowledge could get lost and so one day they met to find a way to preserve it for all times. The idea to carve deep symbols into the walls of the pyramids was dismissed, because man made, even these giant monuments could be destroyed. The Osho Zen Tarot Deck

Osho (11 December 1931 – 19 January 1990), born Chandra Mohan Jain, and also known as Acharya Rajneesh from the 1960s onwards, as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh About, during the 1970s and 1980s and as Osho from 1989, was an Indian mystic, guru, and spiritual teacher who garnered an international following.
A professor of philosophy, he travelled throughout India in the 1960s as a public speaker. His outspoken criticism of socialism, Mahatma Gandhi and institutionalised religions made him controversial. He also advocated a more open attitude towards sexuality: a stance that earned him the sobriquet “sex guru” in the Indian and later international press. Read more The Osho Zen Tarot Deck

The Oswald Wirth Tarot deck

Oswald Wirth Tarot

Joseph Paul Oswald Wirth (1860, Brienz, Canton of Bern – 1943) was a Swiss occultist, artist and author. He studied esotericism and symbolism with Stanislas de Guaita and in 1889 he created, under the guidance of de Guaita, a cartomantic Tarot consisting only of the twenty-two major arcana. Known as the “Arcanes du Tarot kabbalistique”, it followed the designs of the Tarot de Marseille closely but introduced several alterations, incorporating extant occult symbolism into the cards.
